A 31-year-old Omagh woman has been sentenced after pleading guilty to assaulting police officers and a series of driving offences.

Tanya Mullan, from Gortview Close, was given a 12-month probation order, a 12-month driving ban, and fines totalling £575 at Omagh Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

She admitted drink driving, failing to report and remain at the scene of a crash, careless driving, dangerous driving, and two counts of assaulting police.

On February 1, 2026, police responded to a two-vehicle collision on the Mountjoy Road. The driver of a Vauxhall Astra, later identified as Mullan, drove into the rear of another vehicle and left the scene. Records showed the car was registered to her. Officers went to her address but got no response, and shortly afterwards they saw a Seat Leon pull into a lay-by. Mullan was found in the rear passenger seat and arrested. She gave a breathalyser reading of 41 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, six micrograms over the legal limit.

In a separate incident on October 26, police on the Dromore Road saw a Vauxhall Astra accelerate rapidly. Officers followed and reported dangerous overtakes and attempted undertakes. When they activated lights and sirens and stopped the vehicle, Mullan, the driver, refused to cooperate. She turned up the car radio and, when told she was under arrest, struck out at one of the officers. After being placed in handcuffs, she used them to assault another officer, causing an injury that required 17 days off work.

District Judge Conor Heaney imposed the sentence after defence counsel noted Mullan had pleaded guilty and had a limited record.
