A 39-year-old man has been disqualified from driving for three and a half years after a road traffic collision in Lurgan.

Aivaras Vaitekunas, of The Grange in Lurgan, appeared at Craigavon Magistrates Court charged with driving while disqualified, driving with excess alcohol in urine, having no insurance, taking a vehicle without permission, and obstructing police.

On Friday, October 31, 2025, police responded to a collision on Avenue Road. Officers found a Skoda Octavia with significant damage blocking the road, along with a damaged white Mazda and a black Audi. Witnesses identified Vaitekunas as the driver of the Skoda.

Police said he was on the phone and refused to speak with them or provide his name. Officers observed a number of cans of alcohol in the footwell of the vehicle. His partner arrived at the scene and told police she had not given him permission to drive her car.

A roadside breath test recorded 89 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath, exceeding the legal limit of 35. He was arrested, and while being transferred to custody he made a remark acknowledging that he sometimes made foolish decisions but was not a bad person.

In custody, he provided a urine sample which measured 172 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of urine, above the legal limit of 107. He made no comment during a police interview.

A defence lawyer said Vaitekunas is originally from Lithuania, has lived in Northern Ireland for 16 years, and works as a machine operator in a factory. District Judge Michael Ranaghan warned that custody was a real possibility.

Judge Ranaghan disqualified him from driving for three and a half years and imposed a combination order of 12 months on probation and 70 hours of community service.
