A 21-year-old Lurgan man has pleaded guilty to currency offences including possessing and using counterfeit banknotes. Cian Nelson, of Castor Bay Road, appeared via video link from Maghaberry Prison at Craigavon Magistrates Court.

He admitted possessing counterfeit £20 Bank of England notes between 16 and 23 September 2025, and two counts of tendering counterfeit currency on 17 September. He also pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis, a Class B drug, on 22 September. Two related fraud charges were withdrawn and a pre-sentence report was ordered.

Nelson faces a separate set of charges from 30 May this year, including four counts of common assault, disorderly behaviour, assaulting police, three counts of criminal damage, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, resisting police, and possessing an offensive weapon — a garden rake — with intent to commit an indictable offence.

His barrister told the court that some of those alleged to have been assaulted have made withdrawal statements. Bail was granted unopposed with conditions including that he reside at an address on Annaloiste Road, Lurgan, and have no contact with one named woman and one named man. He was released on £300 bail.

The case was adjourned until 31 July.
