A Craigavon judge has granted a limited change to bail conditions for a father and son from Lurgan.

Fergal Leathem, 35, and Phelim Leathem, 67, both of Boconnell Lane, Lurgan, were arrested after an incident near their homes on 3 April.

Fergal Leathem faces charges of possessing a machete with intent to commit an indictable offence and causing grievous bodily harm.

Phelim Leathem is charged with possessing a pen knife with intent to commit murder and attempted murder.

The pair were initially bailed to live in Dungannon with a condition barring them from coming within three miles of Lurgan.

Their barrister told Craigavon Magistrates Court on Friday that the restriction prevented necessary travel on the M1 motorway.

The judge allowed the defendants to use the M1 but rejected a request to lift the Lurgan entry ban entirely, maintaining the 40mph speed limit definition of the town.
