A man in his thirties has been arrested following a planned police search in north Belfast that uncovered suspected drugs, ammunition and a prohibited weapon.

On Friday, 3 July, detectives from the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Criminal Investigation Department, supported by local officers, carried out a search at an address in north Belfast. They seized quantities of suspected Class A, B and C controlled drugs, a single round of ammunition, a device believed to be a Taser, a BB-type gun and items used in drug preparation.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of possessing ammunition in suspicious circumstances, possessing a prohibited weapon and possessing the suspected drugs. He remains in police custody. The seized items have been sent for forensic analysis.

A police spokesperson said the operation demonstrated that, with the right information, police can take decisive action to protect communities from drug harm, and that the force aims to make north Belfast a hostile place for drug dealers. Disrupting organised drug supply remains a priority for police in the area.
