Castlewellan boxer Keary faces Mexican test in Belfast
Castlewellan super-bantamweight Donagh Keary takes the next step in his professional career on Friday when he meets Mexico's Lakshmy Zaragoza Contreras at the Waterfront Hall in Belfast.
The contest is part of the undercard for Conlan Boxing's Last Dance show, which is headlined by Padraig McCrory's final bout before retirement. Keary's six-round fight is expected to begin around 9pm and will be broadcast live on DAZN.
Keary, 21, enters with a 5-1-0 record. His most recent appearance was a dominant points win over Jake Pollard at the same venue in February, where all three judges scored the contest 60-54.
Zaragoza Contreras, nicknamed 'Guerrerito', turned professional in 2017 and arrives with a record of three wins, 19 defeats and two draws. The 28-year-old went the distance in a points loss in Liverpool in May against one of Keary's sparring partners.
Keary has studied the Mexican's style and believes there are weaknesses to exploit. He noted that Zaragoza Contreras is strong in the opening rounds but tends to leave openings as the fight progresses, increasing the chance of a stoppage.
Preparations for the bout included sparring sessions in a full training camp after a short layoff following the February victory. Keary said he has focused more on recovery and feels in the best condition of his professional career so far.
Keary's only knockout win came against Steven Maguire in November 2025. He said another stoppage is possible on Friday but would be satisfied with a strong performance over the full distance.
