A cycling event in Omagh on Sunday attracted hundreds of riders, walkers, and families to honour the memory of local man Eamon McClean, who died ten years ago.

Organised by Omagh Wheelers Cycling Club and the McClean family, the Eamon McClean Legacy Cycle offered a choice of 13, 30, and 55-mile routes. A family walk through Arleston Park and a youth cycling programme at The Grange Park were also part of the day.

Participants returned to Arvalee School and Resource Centre for a barbecue provided by Paddy and Dympa Cleary, live music from The Proper Gandhis, and ice cream from Disney Delights. Clear weather accompanied the event.

Proceeds from the day went to Friends of Arvalee, the official charity partner.

Omagh Wheelers chairman Hugh McCann said the turnout reflected the community spirit Eamon embodied. He thanked all who took part, volunteered, or supported the event, and expressed gratitude to the McClean family for their involvement.

Eamon McClean’s widow, Roisin McClean, watched their three sons cycle out with the club on their father’s bikes and wearing his gear. She described the moment as emotional and said the support from the cycling community and friends was overwhelming. She thanked Omagh Wheelers and everyone who helped organise the day.

The event concluded with participants gathered at Arvalee School, where memories of Eamon were shared.
