A dog owner in Ballymena has appealed for witnesses after his border collie was seriously injured in an attack by two loose dogs in the Demesne estate.

The incident occurred around 8.15 p.m. on Thursday, June 18, on the green area at Glenshesk Drive near Demesne Avenue. The owner was walking his 10-year-old brown border collie on a lead when two XL Bully-type dogs, running free and unaccompanied, approached and attacked.

The owner tried to pull the dogs away and was bitten on the hand in the process. His collie sustained multiple puncture wounds to the face, legs and stomach, and is now receiving veterinary treatment.

The owner said his focus is entirely on his dog’s recovery, describing her condition as only just alive. He expressed gratitude to a couple who stopped to help, after which the dogs eventually ran off.

Police received a report of the incident that evening and attended the scene, where the dogs had been secured. A PSNI spokesperson confirmed that one man reported a hand injury and that enquiries are continuing in conjunction with the council dog warden.

The owner is urging anyone who witnessed the attack or has dashcam, CCTV or doorbell footage from the area around Glenshesk Drive and Demesne Avenue at the time of the incident to contact police on 101.
