A 35-year-old man remains in custody after an early-morning stop and search in Derry yielded suspected Class A drugs.

The arrest occurred when officers on mobile patrol in the Rosses Gate area observed a vehicle travelling at speed at approximately 12.55am on Saturday 13 June. Police signalled for the car to stop and spoke with the driver before searching the vehicle.

Items recovered during the search have been sent for forensic examination. The driver was also found to be in possession of a substance believed to be a Class A controlled drug.

He was arrested on suspicion of drug-related and driving offences. Enquiries are ongoing.
