A man has been arrested on suspicion of multiple drugs offences following a vehicle stop in the Glenshane Road area of Derry.

Police officers from three units were conducting a routine checkpoint on the A6 at around 2am on Tuesday when they stopped a car driven by a 37-year-old man. The driver was already wanted in connection with a number of drugs-related offences.

He was taken into custody and a search of his vehicle uncovered quantities of Class A, Class B and Class C controlled drugs. Two mobile phones were also seized.

The man was further arrested on suspicion of possession of a Class A controlled drug and being concerned in the supply of a Class C controlled drug. He remained in police custody on Tuesday.

Inspector Pearce said the arrest demonstrated the commitment of the Police Service of Northern Ireland to tackling the harm caused by illegal drug use and supply. Officers asked anyone with information about such activity to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
