Over 200 Professionals Attend Homicide Prevention Training in Antrim and Newtownabbey
Over 200 professionals attended a homicide timeline training event at Theatre at The Mill, hosted by Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council. The session was part of the council’s Ending Violence Against Women and Girls (EVAWG) programme and was delivered in partnership with the Department of Justice and the Police Service of Northern Ireland.
The training was led by barrister Sarah Ellis and domestic abuse specialist Bridie Anderson. It covered coercive control, stalking, domestic abuse and intimate partner homicide. Delegates explored patterns of abusive behaviour, risk factors and opportunities for intervention.
Detective Superintendent Lindsay Fisher contributed to the event, emphasising the importance of multi-agency collaboration in identifying risk and improving outcomes for victims.
Mayor Henry Cushinan stated that tackling violence against women and girls requires collective commitment and working with partners to strengthen understanding and create safer communities. Deputy Mayor Alison Bennington added that the training provided insights into warning signs and reinforced the need for strong partnerships and information sharing.
The event was supported by The Executive Office through its EVAWG Momentum Fund. It forms part of the council’s wider programme to raise awareness, promote education and strengthen partnerships across the borough.
