Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council held a conference titled 'It’s In Your Hands' in Armagh yesterday. Around 200 participants attended the event focused on ending violence against women and girls.

Speakers addressed the influence of online communities promoting negative views of women on attitudes among young men and boys. They presented data on increased digital abuse directed at women. The talks covered how traits like dominance, aggression and violence are becoming accepted in society.

Debbie Ging from Dublin City University spoke at the conference. Aishling McMorrow from Queen’s University Belfast participated. Dr Aimée Walsh from Mirror Group London also addressed attendees.

Discussions called for collaboration among government, organisations and society to improve safety for women and girls. Participants highlighted the need for funding to support local awareness and intervention efforts. They stressed providing communities with resources to combat violence against women and girls.

The Executive Office provided funding for the event.
