Armagh Brothers Raise Over £3,500 for Cardiac Charity After Peak Challenge
Two brothers from County Armagh have handed over £3,565 to a charity that works to prevent sudden cardiac deaths in young people, after completing a one-day hike of Northern Ireland’s seven highest peaks.
Jamie and Kris Calvert undertook the Seven Peaks Challenge on May 17 in memory of their cousin Ally, who died suddenly in 2015 at the age of 18. A cardiac arrest caused by an undiagnosed, significantly enlarged heart led to what is known as sudden arrhythmia death syndrome.
The funds were raised for Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY). The charity aims to prevent such deaths through awareness campaigns, research funding, heart screening programmes, and support for affected families. According to CRY, every week at least 12 people aged 35 and under die from undiagnosed heart conditions in the UK.
The brothers had originally set a target of £300. The final total, which came from donations across their local communities, exceeded that more than tenfold.
The money has now been transferred to CRY, and the brothers have thanked everyone who contributed.
