Police in County Tyrone have received no reports that a shot was fired at a vehicle belonging to a migrant near Moygashel, despite a social media post claiming an attack.

Independent Republican Socialist councillor Dan Kerr posted a photograph of a car with its rear window smashed. He stated that someone from a migrant background had contacted him, saying their vehicle was struck by what they believed to be a pellet or rubber bullet on the outskirts of the village.

Ulster Unionist councillor Ian Irwin said he contacted the Police Service of Northern Ireland after becoming aware of the Facebook post. Officers told him no incident had been reported to them.

Irwin urged anyone who has genuinely been the victim of a criminal attack to report it immediately so that police can investigate.

He added that sharing unverified claims at a time of heightened community tension is not helpful. He referenced recent events, including a stabbing in north Belfast and local controversy over police removing a poster in Moygashel, which he said have understandably raised emotions.

Irwin said it is important that public representatives ensure the information they share is accurate and based on fact. He called for calm and for people to use proper channels to report genuine incidents.
