The last financial year saw the highest number of Personal Independence Payment (PIP) withdrawals in the Fermanagh and South Tyrone constituency in five years, with 180 people losing the benefit after a review.

Between 2020 and 2025, a total of 810 people in the area had their PIP awards withdrawn following reassessment, the Department for Communities disclosed. The figure for 2024/25 was the largest annual tally in that period.

The data emerged after Ulster Unionist Party MLA Diana Armstrong asked the Minister for Communities at the Northern Ireland Assembly how many constituents had lost PIP following review over five years. The department’s response stated that the numbers were correct up to November 2025.

PIP is a tax-free payment for people aged over 16 with long-term physical or mental health conditions, disabilities, or difficulties with daily living and mobility. It replaced Disability Living Allowance in 2016. Awards are time-limited and subject to review, with weekly payments ranging from £30.30 to £194.60 depending on the impact of the condition.
