Portadown Rugby Club Elects New President
Portadown Rugby Football Club has announced Phil Spragg as its new president for the 2026/27 season. He will take up the role at Chambers’ Park.
Spragg has volunteered with the club for 25 years, though he never played for the team. In a letter to members following his election on 28 May, he said he was deeply honoured and humbled to have been entrusted with the presidency.
He praised the contribution of former presidents, stating that their service had embodied a principle of respecting the past while embracing the future. He pledged to protect the club’s core values of community, respect, inclusivity, camaraderie and passion for rugby.
Spragg outlined plans to invest in player development at all levels, support coaches and volunteers, and engage with local rugby and wider communities. He also said the club would pursue diversification through sporting and commercial partnerships.
He wished success to club captain Ben McKinnon and women’s captains Kellie Lavery and Az Cousens, as well as all players, coaches and management. He expressed hope for a competitive and injury-free season.
He thanked volunteers and sponsors, noting that a newly refurbished clubhouse would soon open as a sign of members’ commitment. He urged the club community to support sponsors in return.
The club stated that Spragg’s dedication, passion and commitment had been evident throughout his 25‑year association. It said his message reflected the values that define the club and looked forward to his leadership.
