Derry and Strabane Mayor McHugh hosted a reception at the Guildhall to mark the end of his term. He recognised Féile Derry for its work in running cultural events across the city and district.

The mayor noted that Féile Derry has operated for more than 30 years. It began in 1993 as the Gasyard Wall Féile, organised by residents of the Bogside and Brandywell.

Féile Derry now runs its main festival each August. The event draws over 20,000 visitors and is described as the largest arts and cultural festival in the North West.

Additional activities take place year-round. These include workshops, music events, visual arts, literature programmes, carnivals, and community consultations.

McHugh said the festival strengthens connections between residents and supports civic pride. He also thanked staff for their work in sustaining the programme.

Féile Derry events are held in various locations in Derry. Seasonal programmes cover Halloween, Christmas, and spring.
