Cookstown man fined after kicking police vehicle in Derry
A 39-year-old man has been fined £950 and ordered to pay £100 compensation after admitting he kicked a police vehicle and resisted officers in Derry city centre.
Aaron McClintock of William Street, Cookstown, appeared before Derry Magistrates' Court on four charges linked to the incident on April 18.
The court was told that McClintock was sitting near a police vehicle around 5pm when he kicked its door. He then resisted three officers who moved to arrest him.
His solicitor said McClintock had been working in the city that morning and later had several drinks. He added that McClintock was apologetic for what happened.
District Judge Suzanne Rice said the officers were public servants carrying out their duties. She imposed the fine and compensation order.
In a separate case at the same court, Ryan Eugene O'Kane, 41, of no fixed abode, was released on bail after denying charges of non-fatal strangulation, common assault and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
O'Kane is accused of offences against a woman he had been in a relationship with for six months. The alleged incident took place on May 25. He has 27 previous bail breaches on record.
The judge noted the alleged victim had attended Altnagelvin Hospital with fractured ribs and jaw swelling. O'Kane was granted bail with conditions including a curfew, electronic tag, exclusion from Derry city centre and no contact with the alleged victim. He is due to appear again on June 18.
