Adair expects public inquiry call over 1989 Finucane murder
Former UDA figure Johnny Adair expects contact from the public inquiry into the 1989 murder of solicitor Pat Finucane.
Adair was arrested hours after Finucane was shot dead in his north Belfast home on 12 February 1989. He was questioned for seven days at the RUC Castlereagh Holding Centre before release without charge.
Adair claims a Special Branch informant who was present at the killing falsely implicated him and two others to divert attention from the actual participants.
The first public hearing of the inquiry is scheduled for next month in Belfast. Adair states he was arrested on the basis of the informant's statements to handlers.
He said the CID believed the information at the time but later concluded he had no involvement. Adair added he remains prepared to speak to the inquiry.
Finucane, aged 39, was shot 14 times. His wife Geraldine was wounded. The attack occurred while the family was at dinner.
Adair was released from prison in 1999 under the Good Friday Agreement and has lived in Scotland since 2005.
