Fire at Belfast Harbour Scrap Metal Site Prompts Road Closures
Firefighters responded to a large fire at Clearway Metal Recycling on East Twin Road in Belfast Harbour on Sunday afternoon.
Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service crews used nine pumping appliances, an aerial appliance and a high volume pump to tackle the blaze, which involved a 50 metre by 50 metre pile of scrap metal.
Sixty firefighters attended the incident, which produced plumes of black smoke visible from parts of the city including Belfast City Airport.
Queen's Road was closed to traffic and pedestrians, and police advised motorists to avoid the East Twin Road area and seek alternative routes.
Belfast Harbour Police confirmed the site is within the Harbour Estate and worked with other emergency services at the scene.
No injuries were reported and all persons were accounted for.
Fire service operations were expected to continue for some time, and residents in the surrounding area were advised to keep windows and doors closed as a precaution.
