Two roundabouts in Newry are to undergo overnight resurfacing works in September, Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has announced.

The first scheme targets the A28 Customs Station roundabout and Carnbane Way, with a £318,000 investment. Work begins on Sunday 6 September and is expected to be substantially complete by Saturday 19 September, subject to weather conditions.

The second scheme covers the A28 Armagh Road roundabout and adjacent side roads, at a cost of £262,000. That work starts on Sunday 13 September and is due to finish by Friday 25 September.

Both schemes will require overnight road closures from 8pm to 6am each night. For the Customs Station works, closures run from Sunday 6 September to Friday 18 September. For the Armagh Road works, closures run from Sunday 13 September to Friday 25 September.

Signed diversion routes will be in place during the closures. For the Customs Station scheme, diversions include the A1 Newry bypass, A25 Camlough Road, and A27 Tandragee Road. For the Armagh Road scheme, diversions involve the A1 Newry bypass, A27 Tandragee Road, and B114 Tannyoky Road.

The Department for Infrastructure has advised that road users should expect some delays and allow additional time when travelling in the vicinity of the works. Local access will be accommodated where possible, but drivers are asked to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions.

Minister Kimmins said the investment demonstrates her commitment to improving the road network, which she described as vital for connecting businesses and communities.
