A new mural has been unveiled in the Waterside area of Derry. The artwork was developed by young people from several local youth clubs and the North West Migrants Forum as part of a PEACEPLUS-funded project.

The mural shows a mosaic vase with flowers growing from it. The design represents different cultures coming together while maintaining their individual identities.

Participants took part in workshops to learn about street art history in Ireland. They also visited Belfast to study murals and public art in the city centre.

Féile project coordinator Ruairí O’Connell said the project allowed young people from different communities to build friendships and contribute to a positive public artwork.

The initiative was led by street artist collective Peaball. It received support through the PEACEPLUS programme managed by the Special EU Programmes Body.

The mural forms part of efforts to promote community cohesion through public art in Derry.
