Derry Exhibition Displays Women's Anonymous Letters Ahead of International Women's Day
An exhibition titled What We Carry Forward opened in Derry before International Women's Day. It features anonymous letters from women and girls submitted via postboxes placed across the city.
The Freedom Project of Extern hosted the event. Postboxes offered opportunities for participation. Tessa King, Freedom Project Co-ordinator, stated the exhibition shows the power of women's voices in safe creative spaces. She noted the letters address pain, resilience, hope and courage. King called the showcase an act of collective reflection and connection.
The installation provides a drop-in space for reflection and solidarity. The Freedom Project receives funding from the Special EU Programmes Body under the PEACEPLUS Programme Theme 1.1 Action Plan. Derry City and Strabane District Council delivers the project.
The project aids individuals and communities facing trauma, conflict and adversity. It uses trauma-informed practice, creative wellbeing methods and peer-led support. A key part is The Journey of Hope, a six-week programme with creative arts, reflective practice, holistic therapies and co-designed sessions.
