A £303,000 road resurfacing scheme starts on Donegall Street in Belfast city centre on Monday 25 May 2026.

The Department for Infrastructure will carry out carriageway and footway resurfacing between the junctions with Waring Street and Royal Avenue.

The works include the installation of granite kerbs along the full length of the section, which lies inside the Cathedral Conservation Area.

A continuous one-way lane closure will operate throughout the project. Traffic heading from Royal Avenue and York Street toward Waring Street will stay on Donegall Street, while drivers entering from Bridge Street will be routed via North Street.

Full road closures will take place on selected nights between 7pm and 6am to allow carriageway surfacing. Dates for these closures will be confirmed on the TrafficwatchNI website as the scheme progresses.

Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins said the investment will benefit local businesses, road users and visitors, and thanked businesses and residents for their patience during the works.

Subject to weather conditions, the scheme is due to finish by 8 July 2026. The Department will update the public on any changes to the programme.
