Lisburn man receives 16-month prison term for assaults and drug possession
Lee Johnston, 34, from Teeling Avenue in Dunmurry, received a 16-month prison sentence at Lisburn Magistrates Court. District Judge Rosie Watters imposed the term for multiple offences including criminal damage, possessing offensive weapons, common assaults, domestic abuse and drug possession.
The charges stemmed from incidents in Lisburn. On May 2, 2025, police responded to Altona Gardens where 20-30 people gathered in the street. Johnston shouted from his property window, attempted to punch a neighbour over a fence while holding a metal bar, and threw a glass bottle at a BMW, damaging it.
Police found him guilty in his absence after he was removed from court during the hearing. On September 5, 2025, officers discovered four diazepam tablets and two zopiclone tablets during a domestic incident search.
Another domestic abuse charge arose on September 28, 2026, involving his partner at the time. Johnston received five months for domestic abuse, with two prior suspended sentences activated to total 10 months consecutively.
For criminal damage, possessing an offensive weapon and common assault, he got six months on each count, consecutive to the 10 months. The two-month drug possession sentence ran concurrently. Watters added a 25-pound offender levy and ordered drug destruction.
Leave to appeal was granted, but Johnston remains in custody pending the hearing due to concerns over further offences.
