ICRIR Launches New Appeal in 1975 Belfast Bus Depot Shooting
The Independent Commission for Reconciliation and Information Recovery has begun investigating the death of Alex Millar, a Citybus inspector killed in Belfast in May 1975. No group claimed responsibility for the shooting.
The 54-year-old father of four died from gunshot wounds received at the Ardoyne Citybus depot. The incident occurred at about 2.40pm on Friday, May 2, 1975, in the Timekeepers' office at the junction of Cranbrook Avenue and Ardoyne Road.
Two gunmen entered the depot and fired several shots at Mr Millar. Witnesses saw the gunmen leave in a blue vehicle on Cranbrook Avenue. Mr Millar received critical injuries and later died at the Royal Victoria Hospital.
ICRIR assistant commissioner Amanda Logan stated that Mr Millar's family requested the investigation to learn the truth about his death. She noted that the family has endured the pain of loss for over 50 years.
Logan emphasized that small details often prove important in such cases. She encouraged anyone who saw or heard anything related to the events to contact the commission with their information.
