Man Charged Over Fatal Crash at Nutts Corner in Co Antrim
A 29-year-old man from Flax Street in Belfast appeared in Limavady Magistrates Court, sitting in Coleraine, on Wednesday. Tiernan McCann faces eight charges related to a road traffic collision on Belfast Road at Nutts Corner in Co Antrim on April 26.
The charges include causing the death of 16-year-old Callum Hutchinson by dangerous and careless driving. McCann is also charged with causing grievous bodily injury to an 11-year-old boy by dangerous and careless driving. Additional charges cover driving while unfit through drink or drugs, excess speed, using a mobile phone while driving, and an incorrect registration mark.
The collision involved a black Volkswagen Golf and a silver Volkswagen Passat. Callum Hutchinson, from Borrisokane in Co Tipperary, was a passenger in the Passat and died in the crash. The 11-year-old boy, named Christopher Faulkner in one report and Christopher Mikey John in another, was also a passenger in the Passat.
Christopher remains in hospital in critical condition. He is a cousin of Scarlett Faulkner, who died from injuries in an incident in Birdhill, Co Tipperary, on March 21.
Funeral arrangements for Callum Hutchinson include reposing at his home on Towerhill on Friday, May 1, from 2pm to 6pm. Removal takes place Saturday morning to SS Peter and Paul's Church in Borrisokane, arriving at 11:15am for 11:30am mass, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.
McCann confirmed he understood the charges and was remanded in custody.
