Aaron Beggs from Bangor in Co Down assisted Ajay Haridasse near the finish of the 130th Boston Marathon on Sunday. Beggs, a member of North Down Athletic Club, stopped after Haridasse fell and could not stand near the 26-mile mark.

Beggs pulled Haridasse up from the ground. Robson De Oliveira then joined to support Haridasse across the finish line on Beacon Street. De Oliveira passed out after they crossed and received a wheelchair.

Beggs recorded a finishing time of 2 hours 44 minutes 36 seconds, placing 1,884th out of nearly 30,000 participants. Both Beggs and De Oliveira gave up chances for personal best times.

North Down Athletic Club praised Beggs. Club chair Jamie Stevenson said the action showed integrity, compassion, and sportsmanship, reflecting the running community's spirit in Northern Ireland.

Beggs said his instinct led him to help despite missing his target of 2 hours 40 minutes. He noted that helping others occurs at almost every marathon due to the shared journey among runners.
