Omagh Man with Cerebral Palsy Raises £3,100 for Cancer Charity via Rowing Challenge
Des McLaughlin, 27, from Omagh, completed a 13.5-mile rowing challenge to support Care For Cancer. The effort honored his aunt Roisin, who died in May 2024 after a cancer diagnosis.
McLaughlin lives with hemiplegic cerebral palsy since birth. Mobility issues on his right side prevented a running challenge, so he chose rowing. He joined a gym recently and worked with trainer Shane from XP5 Fitness to plan the event.
His mother Breege stated that McLaughlin wanted to contribute to the charity for its support to Roisin. The charity provided therapies and transport services during her illness.
McLaughlin set up a JustGiving page for donations. The challenge raised £3,128 in total.
Breege noted that Shane and his team offered encouragement during the effort.
