Fundraiser for Omagh Man Tops £35,000 After Bali Motorbike Crash
A GoFundMe appeal for Andrew Patterson, a 29-year-old from Omagh in Co Tyrone, has raised more than £35,000 to cover medical costs after a motorbike crash in Bali.
Patterson sustained severe injuries including trauma to his skull, face, hand, neck and spine in the accident on Sunday evening. He underwent surgery on Tuesday for a broken cheekbone, fractured eye socket, broken nose, multiple lacerations, neck fractures and spine fractures.
Originally from Omagh, Patterson has lived in Melbourne, Australia, for two and a half years, working as a tree surgeon. He was on holiday in Bali at the time.
His parents, Jennifer and Drew Patterson, received a call in the early hours of Sunday about the crash. Patterson has had reconstructive surgery and skin grafts. A close family member travelled to Bali to support him.
Patterson's sisters Nicola, Laura and Andrea launched the fundraiser due to high treatment costs. They noted uncertainty over further surgery needs for his injuries.
Mountjoy United, the local football club where Patterson previously played, shared the appeal and called for community support through donations or shares.
