Councillor Ruairí McHugh, Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District, launched the Art On Your Doorstep project at the Tower Museum. The initiative places 18 life-size reproductions of paintings from the National Gallery's collection in outdoor public spaces across six locations in the council area.

The council's museum team selected the artworks, which include pieces by Renoir and Van Gogh, as well as works by Paul Gauguin, Hans Holbein, Cosmè Tura, George Bellows, Joseph Wright of Derby, and Jean-Étienne Liotard. The paintings cover themes of nature, food, and celebration. Each reproduction appears in a life-size copy of its original frame.

McHugh attended the launch event yesterday and urged residents to seek out the installations in their communities. The sites include Tower Museum, Acorn Farm, St Columb’s Park House, NI Libraries Strabane, The Diamond in Castlederg, and Newtownstewart Castle.

Public visitors can scan QR codes next to each painting for details on the works and artists. The codes link to a free interactive mobile game created with children to draw in younger people.

The project runs until the end of September 2026. It results from a partnership between the National Gallery and Derry City and Strabane District Council.
