Newry Businessman Hugh Boyle Snr Passes Away Aged 77
Hugh Boyle Snr, owner of Shelbourne Bakery on Hill Street in Newry, died peacefully at home on March 24 aged 77 surrounded by family. He acquired the business in October 1994 and ran it with his son Hugh Jnr.
The bakery employed hundreds of people over the years. Boyle co-founded Hope 4 ME & Fibro Northern Ireland in 2011 with Joan McParland and served as its vice treasurer since then.
The charity provides resources and support for people with ME, post-Covid ME and fibromyalgia, along with their carers and families. It offers free CPD-certified educational events for healthcare providers and students at Queen's University Belfast and Ulster University.
Shelbourne Bakery announced Boyle's death on March 24. His remains reposed at his residence, 40 Carrivekeeney Road in Camlough, on March 25 and 26.
The funeral procession left on foot at 10.45am on March 27 for a 12 noon Requiem Mass at St Malachy's Church in Carrickcruppen. Interment followed in the adjoining cemetery.
Boyle was husband to Nicola and former husband to Nellie. He was father to Paula, Donna, Nicola, Hugh and Shenna, and grandfather to Caílam, Shea, Ross, Dylan, Harry, Ellie, Oisín, Culann, Cailim, Rory and Hugo.
He was son of the late Gerry and Mary, and brother to Stephen, Terry, Ann, John, and the late Donal and Liam. Donations in lieu of family flowers go to Cuan Mhuire via the family.
Carrickcruppen GAA club expressed sympathy to Boyle's family. The club noted his support for its work in the Camlough and Bessbrook area.
