A 30-year-old man remains in custody on suspicion of murder after 28-year-old Amy Doherty died from injuries at a house in Summer Meadows Mews, Waterside area of Derry, on March 21 at around 10.20am. Northern Ireland Ambulance Service took her to hospital where she died soon after.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland Major Investigation Team leads the inquiry. Detective Inspector Michelle Griffin said officers attended the property, found the injured woman, and arrested the man on Saturday. Detective Inspector Ferguson named Amy Doherty as the victim and said police maintain a presence in the Summer Meadows area for ongoing enquiries.

Police carried out door-to-door inquiries and forensic examinations at the scene on Sunday.

Amy Doherty was mother to sons Rhea and Ronan. She was daughter to Patrick and Sharon Doherty, sister to Shane and Ryan, granddaughter to John and Patricia Doherty and Margaret Mooney, and part of an extended family. Her family home is at 61 Norburgh, Foyle Springs, Derry.

She worked at North West Care.

Mayor of Derry and Strabane Ruairi McHugh opened a book of condolence at the Guildhall from 4pm on March 23, available daily from 9am and online.

Alliance For Choice arranged a vigil at the Guildhall steps on March 27 at 7pm.
