Markethill Friends Plan Skydive to Support Autism Families Charity
Two 18-year-olds from Markethill, Mia Porter and Maya Skrzypczyk, plan to skydive on April 3 to raise money for Autism Families, a charity that supports young people with autism.
The friends have known each other for three years. Mia Porter's 15-year-old sister Ellise has autism and epilepsy. These conditions limit her activities and have led to bullying from other children.
Autism Families provides services that have helped Ellise manage her emotions and daily challenges. The charity teaches participants to value their differences and ignore negative comments from others.
Ellise now carries herself confidently due to the charity's influence. Autism Families organizes outings such as fun runs and walks. Participants receive medals, and families can join these events.
These activities help young people build a sense of accomplishment. Ellise shows her medals to family members with pride.
Mia Porter proposed the skydive to her friend Maya Skrzypczyk as a way to give back to the charity. Maya Skrzypczyk agreed despite her fear of heights.
The pair have raised £1,100 so far ahead of the event.
