A County Tyrone man has completed a 72-hole golf challenge to raise money and awareness for mental health charity AWARE NI. Dylan Dore played four consecutive rounds at Fintona Golf Club on Monday, August 24, beginning at 5.45am and finishing his final hole at 8.30pm. The effort raised £2,066 at the time of writing.

Dore, who lives with Bipolar Type 2 and destructive depression, said raising awareness was as important to him as fundraising. He described feeling lost after his diagnosis and not knowing where to turn for support.

Golf has become an important part of managing his mental wellbeing, he said. The sport gives him focus, takes him outside, and helps him concentrate on the present rather than past or future concerns.

The challenge was physically demanding. Dore walked 44,854 steps during the day, according to his Apple Watch. He said the support of other club members and the council committee helped him through the tougher moments.

He expressed gratitude to everyone who donated, shared his fundraiser, or offered encouragement. He hopes the challenge reminds people that mental health deserves the same attention as physical health, and that finding someone to talk to is often the most important first step.
