Singer-songwriter Foy Vance from Bangor in County Down released his seventh album The Wake. The album forms part of a seven-album series started in 1998 dedicated to his late father Hugh Vance.

Vance spoke on BBC Radio Ulster's Good Morning Ulster programme about how his father's death altered his approach to music. He described pre-loss songwriting as a means to tour. Post-loss he viewed music as essential support and felt his father's influence as a co-writer.

His father worked as a preacher and offered strong support for Vance's early career. Hugh Vance entered his son in singing competitions and drove him to performances.

Vance gained recognition in 2013 with the album Joy of Nothing which earned the Northern Ireland Music Prize. He signed with Gingerbread Records owned by Ed Sheeran and has collaborated with Sheeran including an Emmy-winning song for the Ted Lasso soundtrack.
