St Patrick's Day Set as Non-Charge Day for On-Street Parking in Belfast, Lisburn and Newry from 2026
Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins confirmed St Patrick's Day will be a non-charge day for Controlled Parking Zones in Belfast, Lisburn and Newry from 2026. The update follows changes to legislation that align the day with other holidays for on-street parking.
Kimmins said her department amended the rules due to prior differences in parking charges compared to other holidays. She stated the move gives more options for event attendees, shoppers and city visitors on the day.
The minister asked drivers to park legally and responsibly in towns and cities. She noted that proper parking aids safer streets, access for disabled people, local businesses and transport flow.
Off-street car parks stay under local council control with separate charges. Belfast City Council voted last week to keep its fees for the day.
Belfast hosts a SPAR Craic 10k race from City Hall to Ormeau Park and a parade from City Hall on St Patrick's Day.
