Revised Mobuoy Dump Remediation Plan Due Next Month After Public Input
Environment Minister Andrew Muir told MLAs on Monday that a revised remediation strategy for the Mobuoy dump site on the banks of the Faughan near Derry will reach him next month.
The Department for Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs appointed an integrated consultancy team that finished a technical evaluation of twenty-six written responses and input from two public consultation events last year.
Foyle MLA Ciara Ferguson questioned Muir about the site during the Assembly session. The events drew 110 attendees in Derry.
The Northern Ireland Environment Agency will publish a summary report on the consultation responses later this week.
Muir plans meetings soon with local MLAs, MPs, and Derry City and Strabane District Council officials including the mayor and chief executive. The group met last September.
Ferguson asked if DAERA's budget covers environmental monitoring at the site for the next three years. Muir confirmed funding for monitoring remains in place.
He stated that the revised strategy will shape future budget bids for remediation.
