Four pupils from Co Antrim schools shadowed Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council Mayor Oliver McMullan for a full day of engagements on Tuesday 3 March. The event marked International Women’s Day.

Demi Timperley and Aimee Dillon from Cross and Passion College, accompanied by Anna McKay, joined Carragh Rafferty and Jenna Brennan from Ballycastle High School, accompanied by Heather Dalzell.

The group started at Cloonavin in Coleraine, where the pupils helped open an International Women’s Day event for council staff.

Next, they went to Top Darts in Coleraine for the Good Relations Schools Darts Competition, meeting pupils from across the borough.

The schedule continued at Limavady Shared Education Campus with pupils from St Mary’s High School Limavady and Limavady High School. The visit covered collaborative education and shared learning.

In the afternoon, the pupils toured the Council Chamber at Cloonavin and had lunch with civic representatives.

The day ended at the newly refurbished library in Ballycastle.

Councillor Oliver McMullan stated that the initiative sought to show young women pathways in leadership and public service. He thanked the schools and noted the pupils' conduct as a credit to their institutions and families. McMullan added that the experience demonstrated local decision-making and council partnerships with communities.
