Four Key Stage 4 and 5 female pupils from Cross and Passion College and Ballycastle High School took part in a Mayor for a Day event on March 3. Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council organised the initiative.

Demi Timperley and Aimee Dillon represented Cross and Passion College. Carragh Rafferty and Jenna Brennan came from Ballycastle High School. The pupils accompanied Mayor Councillor Oliver McMullan on engagements across the borough.

The day started at Cloonavin in Coleraine. There the group assisted in opening an International Women’s Day event for council staff.

Next, they attended the Good Relations Schools Darts Competition at Top Darts in Coleraine. Pupils met students from other schools in the borough.

The group visited Limavady Shared Education Campus, which includes St Mary’s and Limavady High School.

In the afternoon, they toured the council chamber at Cloonavin and ate lunch with civic representatives.

The programme ended at the refurbished library in Ballycastle.

Councillor Oliver McMullan welcomed the pupils. He thanked the schools for their support. He said the event allowed pupils to gain experience of local decision-making and council partnerships with communities.
