Owen McDonagh, 33, from Edward Street in Portadown, appeared at Strabane Magistrates Court on charges from a domestic incident in the Caledon area on April 4.

Prosecutors stated he intentionally applied pressure to a woman's throat or neck to impair her breathing or blood flow to the brain. They also alleged he assaulted the woman and followed a course of abusive behaviour likely to cause her physical or psychological harm.

A police officer told the court the charges are connected. The officer did not object to bail with conditions.

District Judge Barney McElhome granted bail at £750. Conditions include residing at a police-known address, no contact with the woman, staying out of the Caledon area within its 30mph speed limit zone, and no alcohol or non-prescription drugs.

The judge told McDonagh he was fortunate police did not oppose bail given the strangulation accusation against a woman.

McDonagh will appear next at Dungannon Magistrates Court on February 22.
