Ballymoney town centre has gained a burst of colour this summer from hanging baskets created by local children.

The displays are the result of an outreach project run by Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council's estates department, which invited primary schools and early years settings to take part.

Youngsters from St Brigid's Primary School, Ballymoney Model Integrated Primary School, Leaney Primary School, Stepping Stones Playgroup and Ballymoney Nursery School were all involved.

Each school's basket hangs from a pole that carries a label identifying the school, allowing families and passers-by to spot their contribution.

Mayor Dawn Huggins visited the town this week to see the displays. She congratulated the participating schools and said the project had given children the chance to learn horticultural skills and feel pride in their local area.

It is the first year the initiative has been brought to Ballymoney. Similar projects have previously been carried out in Coleraine and Ballycastle.
