Armagh Council Organises International Women’s Day Event for Local School Pupils
Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council organised an International Women’s Day event at Craigavon Civic and Conference Centre. Pupils from Royal School Armagh, St Ronan’s College, Lismore College, St John the Baptist College, City of Armagh High School, St Patrick’s High School Keady and Banbridge Academy attended.
Laura O’Neill, Digital Transformation Manager at Belfast Harbour, spoke about her role in 5G technology and digital innovation for the port’s smart operations. Philippa McShane, Director of McShane Packaging Ltd in Armagh, discussed managing her family business and supporting women through mentoring. Emer Maguire, a comedian, addressed her professional path and advocacy for autism awareness.
Lauren McCrory, an Irish country singer, served as host. The speakers and host joined a panel discussion where pupils asked questions.
Lord Mayor Alderman Stephen Moutray attended the event. He expressed pride in women working for the council and in borough communities. Moutray said the Give to Gain theme underscores the need for an inclusive society. He hoped the event would encourage young women to follow their goals.
The event aligned with the International Women’s Day theme of Give to Gain.
