A second-hand bookshop operated by Concern Worldwide on Ferryquay Street in Derry reached its 10-year milestone. The shop opened in March 2016.

Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council Ruairí McHugh visited the site for the anniversary. Local author Claire Allan attended the event. Children from Fountain Primary School joined the celebration alongside 25 volunteers who run the operation.

The volunteers have sold around 160,000 books over the years. Those sales generated more than £600,000 for Concern's global humanitarian programs.

Concern Worldwide NI Director Jackie Trainor credited the volunteers' commitment and customer donations for the achievement. Volunteer Irene McGonagle described the shop as a social hub in daily routines for visitors. Laurence Hegarty, a volunteer since the opening, noted regular collections of donated books from city amenity sites and house clearances.

To observe the occasion on World Book Day, Concern launched a colouring and drawing competition for local primary school children. Prizes include a Guildhall tour with the mayor. All entries will appear in the bookshop display.

Concern plans to contact primary schools this month with entry details. The group welcomes book donations and new volunteers.
