Asda has installed book donation points in its stores throughout Northern Ireland. The retailer started the Free The Books campaign to collect pre-loved children's books for young readers.

A survey of 2,000 UK adults found 283 million books remain unread in homes. The poll, conducted with The Children’s Book Project, showed nearly all respondents consider sharing physical books essential for children's development.

Most adults reported that their own childhood reading experiences influenced their lives. A large majority described reading as a key part of their early years, with over half retaining their original childhood books.

An Asda representative noted that reading shapes personal growth and encouraged customers to donate unused books at local stores to support children. The donation points accept children's titles and operate now in all Northern Ireland locations.
