The Walking for All programme launched on 27 February 2026 at The Junction in Dungannon. Outscape leads the project with €7.5 million from the Special EU Programmes Body under PEACEPLUS. It partners with 15 organisations, including eight local authorities and six local sports partnerships.

The programme aims to involve over 14,000 adults from rural areas in Northern Ireland and border counties. It provides short, regular led walks in community spaces for people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities. Sixteen Walking for All Officers coordinate activities and train walk leaders to establish nearly 600 walking groups over three years.

In Antrim and Newtownabbey, Bridie Kelly acts as the Walking for All Officer. She develops walking groups with local communities. Deputy Mayor Councillor Julie Gilmour said the programme promotes connection and activity in rural communities.

DAERA Minister Andrew Muir stated his department funds the project through PEACEPLUS with other partners. He said it encourages volunteer-led experiences to build rural community bonds. SEUPB CEO Gina McIntyre noted rural areas often lack sports facilities and the programme offers inclusive support to build routines and belonging.

Outscape Head of Participation Gareth Moore said trained walk leaders will run weekly walks near homes. Outscape chair Dawson Stelfox called it an investment in community health. Ministers Dara Calleary and Jerry Buttimer from Ireland's Department of Rural and Community Development expressed support for the initiative.
