Funeral Scheduled for Derry Arts Curator Liam Browne
Liam Browne died on February 21 at Royal Sussex County Hospital. He was 55. Originally from Asylum Road in Derry, he had lived in Sussex for years.
His funeral takes place at St. Eugene's Cathedral in Derry on March 7 at 10am. A requiem mass will be followed by interment at the cathedral.
Browne curated arts events including the Impact 1992 festival in Derry. He worked at South Bank Centre in England and directed Brighton Festival. He co-curated Folkstone book festival.
He co-founded DoranBrowne with Seán Doran. Their Arts Over Borders initiative contributed to FrielFest, Seamus Heaney HomePlace project and Yes Festival in Derry.
Browne authored the 2006 novel The Emigrant's Farewell, published by Bloomsbury. The book is set in Derry and follows a couple's loss alongside a 19th-century shipbuilder's story linked to a North West Passage expedition.
He is survived by children Tomás and Gabriel, siblings Catherine, Mairead and Claire, and extended family.
