Belfast Library Hosts Centenary Event on Writer Mary Beckett
The Linen Hall Library in Belfast organised an event to mark the centenary of Mary Beckett's birth in 1926. Beckett wrote novels and short stories including A Belfast Woman, A Literary Woman and Give Them Stones. Her books addressed the lives of women, particularly working-class women in Belfast.
The library partnered with Look North! for the session. Belfast writers Anne Devlin and Wendy Erskine spoke about Beckett's work and legacy. Award-winning novelist Bernie McGill chaired the discussion.
The event sold out. It formed part of Look North: The North Belfast Festival 2026.
