New book details unresolved murder of Bellaghy GAA man Seán Brown
A new book by Derry writer Garbhán Downey will be launched at Seán Dolan’s GAC in Derry on Tuesday, June 16, at 7pm.
'A Bitter Harvest: The Good Life and Unresolved Murder of Derry GAA Man Seán Brown' includes a foreword by actor Stephen Rea.
The work revisits the abduction and murder of Seán Brown on May 12, 1997. Mr Brown was taken from the grounds of Bellaghy GAC, where he served as chairman. He was a friend of the poet Seamus Heaney.
His family has consistently described the killing as state-sponsored. Widow Bridie Brown and the couple’s six children have campaigned over nearly three decades for a public inquiry and access to official information.
The book recounts Mr Brown’s life, the impact on the community, and the family’s ongoing pursuit of answers.
