Derry Teachers Midway Through 96-Hour Fast for Gaza Aid
Teachers Dermot O’Kane and Conlaoth Rodgers from St Cecilia’s in Derry started a 96-hour fast on Monday afternoon. The effort supports Gaza Ground Aid Ireland, which provides humanitarian assistance to civilians in Gaza. The fast reaches its end at 12:30pm on Friday.
The initiative has collected more than £2,000 in donations at its midpoint. Staff members at the school have participated in shorter fasts lasting 24, 48 or 72 hours. Pupils plan to join with a 24-hour fast in the final stage.
Rodgers described the fast as a minor sacrifice relative to conditions in Gaza. He stated that skipping meals for several days justifies the push for awareness and funding. O’Kane called it a community project involving staff, pupils, parents and locals. He expressed thanks for all contributions.
Donations go directly to Gaza Ground Aid Ireland.
